Saving energy and fighting the urban heat island
Coating the roof and painting the house this weekend with special reflective materials. Keeps the place cooler, and helps our older adobe house resist the harsh desert elements and sun.
Speaking of urban heat island, why is the new I-10/I-19 interchange area in Tucson so barren? No trees or landscaping at all. This concrete jungle design is a heat factory, and very ugly. US FHWA, ADOT, City of Tucson, etc. need to step up and plant some natives, or is that not in the budget for this NAFTA freeway project?
