The threat of it passing scared the heck out of the coal and gas industry in North Dakota, a state with terrible environmental laws that make it totally dependent on federal laws and laws in other states when it comes to stopping coal projects. At least three proposed new coal projects in North Dakota were on hold while L-W was on the table, because the industry didn't know what its costs were going to be. Now that L-W is dead, I fear those projects may reopen their permitting processes, figuring that with no federal legislation before next year, they may be able to speed things through the state. In the past, progressive people just wrote off states such as North Dakota, figuring that if their residents wouldn't fight for good environmental laws, that was their problem. But with global climate change, backward states hurt ALL of us.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
